Desire’s Texas Cattleman’s Club – The Showdown!

The long-running TCC series is a favourite with Desire readers. When  I was asked to contribute to this lastest set of stories, I was blown away. The chance to work alongside these truly amazing authors in a group of connected books?  My answer was a resounding, “You bet!”

At my story’s start, star-chitect Daniel Warren is a visitor to Royal – home of the band of dedicated men who head the TCC. However, Daniel is no stranger to the south and he’s not too thrilled about the memories, and sense of guilt, this assignment has dredged up. He’ll help a gutsy friend campaign for president of the club – a woman, no less. Then he’s outta there, back to New York City where he belongs.

But when an attractive, sophisticated younger woman knocks him sideways by taking control and inviting herself into his hotel room, Daniel must accept that while he might not have been looking for trouble – or passion – in Royal’s maverick heiress, Elizabeth Milton, he’s found it in spades.

The series kicks off with One Night, Two Heirs this month! The author? USA Today bestselling author, Maureen Child! And here’s the rest of the incredible line-up…

Brenda Jackson, Katherine Garbera, Kathy Denosky, Barbara Dunlop as well as yours truly.

Daniel and Elizabeth’s story – Playboy Millionaire, Maverick Heiress – hits the NA shelves in October and is available for preorder now!  Thank you to New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery for her fabulous quote.

RWA New York Literary Signing

For readers, writers, editors, agents and publishers, the Romance Writers of America’s annual conference in a huge deal. One of the best loved events is the liteary signing where fans from all over the country, and the world, line up to have books autographed by enthusiastic authors and have a bit of a chat.

See if you can spot your favourite writer while listening to one of the best Beatles songs ever recorded. Yeah. I know. There were a few.

Villains we love to hate @ eHarlequin

This week I’m fielding questions from readers, and particularly writers, at Harlequin’s online site. We’re discussing secondary characters and those despicable characters who make us cringe – as well as keep flicking the page…the villains.

We might normally associate “villain” with thrillers, those stories that set every  hair on end and culminate with the baddie going down. There’s corporate villains; think The Firm. Paranormal baddies – e.g. Victoria from Stephanie Meyer‘s Twilight series. Demented people you long to string up – for instance, Suzy Salmon’s shifty murderer in the Lovely Bones. What about humorous, heckI-have-one-of-those, villains like Jane Fonda’s jealous, obsessed character in Monster In Law?

Villains have appeared in my stories. Drago Scarpini from Bedded for Blackmail was not a pleasant fellow, although we did learn how and why he did the evil things he did. I’m a fan of psychological thrillers. My fave is Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane where the unmasking of the true bad guy is amazingly well done.

If you’re interested in how secondary characters, including villains, are handled in category romance, drop in here. And do let me know which villain you love to hate!

great response!

Seems there are more people than I expected interested in the Plot and Beyond workshop!

I shouldn’t be surprised because I know I love occasions like this. Being a writer at any stage in your career, it’s so valuable to learn fresh approaches or simply be assured you’re doing it right. Perhaps the most important aspect of workshops is the getting together with like-minded people, ramping up the desire to continue and to go forward with confidence, energy and enjoyment.

The Sunshine Coast workshop is at capacity now. If you’re interested in attenting future workshops, please contact me at robyn-grady (at) hotmail (dot) com and we’ll see if we can get together and swing it sometime in the future.

Thanks for the great response via this blog and elsewhere, and also a big thank you to Narelle 🙂
